100 Happy Days: Day 37 Carrot Pickle.

Happiness is making carrot pickle at home

While the supermarkets are filled with big variety of exotic jars, there is no romance greater than cooking your own creation in your kitchen. Somehow, my taste in outdoor eating is diminishing and home cooked food seems to be a better option. On those lazy days, when I am too tired to even light a match, a prepared meal is what I look for. But stale food does not suit my tummy; it has to be freshly prepared unless it’s a pickle.

So, that was good enough reason to use up my energy on my bright sunny day and chop few carrots to compromise on those dull lazy days. It is simple and easy to make, so much so that my maid wants to ape it too and actually asked me the recipe. Okay, since you might want to know too, it is just the mixture of mustard seeds, garlic, salt, red chilies, mustard oil and little water. Sun it for few days and it can go with plain rice or even dry roti.

Such are the joys of cooking

100 Happy Days: Day 36 Getting Published.

Happiness is getting published in an e-book

Okay, I contributed my recipe of ‘Papad ji Bhaji’ to Perzen Patel, who is introducing a series of e-books on 'Best Kept Secret'. This is a book that consist of stories behind a recipe. Many food bloggers contributed to this project, there was voting on the social media to select the best.

I am glad that I was lucky to be included in the very first edition of this series.

You can read it too. Download it now at http://www.bawibride.com/ go/download-bestkeptsecrets/ and enjoy the stories behind a recipe.

It is an interesting read. Believe me.

100 Happy Days: Day 35 Henna on Hands.

Happiness is attending Mehandi parties.

Celebration of any kind is a boost to the spirit in an otherwise drab life. Imagine how our life would be if there was just work and looking after the family. Everybody would lead a life of recluse just buried in completing responsibilities and duties.

Social events are created to divert our mind away from the routine. Birthday parties, weddings and social gatherings are food for the soul.

Mehandi parties have a different kind of thrill. A group of ladies get together dressed in most colorful clothes and create henna designs on their palms and feet. Since its ladies event, there has to be singing and dancing too.

So while women wait for their turn, there is much laughter around.

100 Happy Days: Day 34 Maid is back.

Happiness is when maid returns to work after 10days vacation.

In India, we are too pampered. The day maid informs that she has to go to see her family in the village, is when our BP shoots up.

During my visits abroad, it is not a big deal to clean the house, wash the dishes and do other odd jobs but back home it is just not done.

I asked my maid to get me a replacement, her daughter came, helped me with clothes, dishes and house, but still there was too much dust in the house. I have trained my maid to do the kind of work that I like, her daughter does not meet that standard, but well, she is temporary so no complains.

After ten days of her visit to her village, when she returned today, I almost jumped with joy….
