100 Happy Days: Day 40 Close Friends.

Happiness is spending quality time with close friends

As we grow older it becomes difficult to make new friends. Yes, we do make new friends at work places, during travelling and even on social media like twitter and facebook. But, the friends that we made during our growing up years in school/college always remain our close friends even though the physical distances and family obligations may have separated us.

Whenever we meet such friends, all the distances are narrowed down to naught and we begin to enjoy just the way we always did. These are the friends who understand you, your imperfections, your temperament, your good and your bad point. You don’t need to pretend to be somebody else. You don’t even try hard to please them.

These are your friends who accept you just the way you are.

I met them today, after few years, and the day passed, chatting, singing, dancing and remembering the good ole days.

At the end of the day, when we said goodbye, the sweet memories lingered on…

100 Happy Days: Day 39 Reading Offline.

Happiness is reading a real book offline

Most of my reading is normally done online. There are blogs, news, posts, e-books, there is endless material on the net. But still, the greater pleasure is reading offline with actual book in hand.

I am still old-fashioned when reading is concerned. I love books in my hand, the weight, the smell, the touch, and actual turning of the curled pages. The comfort of resting against soft pillow, inclined at an comfortable angle, and reading at a slow pace without worrying about the battery charge.

Presently, the book in my hand is ‘rude Food’ that takes me through the food journeys across the world drooling all the way.

Such comfort!!

100 Happy Days: Day 38 Painting.

Happiness is painting the furniture to give a neat look

The condition of environment reflects on my moods. I am mostly at peace when I am in the clean room. But of late, I have neglected my house. Since last two years, society made promises of redevelopment and it seemed like it would happen immediately. I had made plans to rid of all the old furniture and would buy a brand new when I moved to a new house.

What was the use of doing any repairs or shining the house, if it was going to break soon?

The neglect slowly eroded the walls of my room and the furniture was peeling off its paints. This created bad vibrations  that changed my moods too. I was irritable and uncomfortable.

Everyday, new laws are introduced and delay is imminent. Seems like redevelopment is going to be just a dream. I decided not to wait any more. Happiness was a better option so I called the painter and asked him to paint all the furniture in light grey.

Some uplifts in my room has uplifted my spirit too.

100 Happy Days: Day 37 Carrot Pickle.

Happiness is making carrot pickle at home

While the supermarkets are filled with big variety of exotic jars, there is no romance greater than cooking your own creation in your kitchen. Somehow, my taste in outdoor eating is diminishing and home cooked food seems to be a better option. On those lazy days, when I am too tired to even light a match, a prepared meal is what I look for. But stale food does not suit my tummy; it has to be freshly prepared unless it’s a pickle.

So, that was good enough reason to use up my energy on my bright sunny day and chop few carrots to compromise on those dull lazy days. It is simple and easy to make, so much so that my maid wants to ape it too and actually asked me the recipe. Okay, since you might want to know too, it is just the mixture of mustard seeds, garlic, salt, red chilies, mustard oil and little water. Sun it for few days and it can go with plain rice or even dry roti.

Such are the joys of cooking
