100 Happy Days: Day 44 Read Meet.

Happiness is sharing your writings with friends.

I am an active member of 'Caferati read meet'. We meet every month and share our prose/poems with friends. Every month, there is a theme to trigger our writing. A positive feedback is given which helps us improve our writings. Read meets have helped me a lot and these are much better than attending an organized workshops.

This week, we met at our friend’s place at Versova. The theme was ‘epistolary’. I have never before attempted this format. I googled to read various writings on this format and then attempted one story. I wrote the story in the series of letters written over one year. I have posted my story ‘Postcard From Spain’ on my blog.

Do visit to read my story, you will love it.

One friend wrote the story in a telephone conversation format, other had email snippets and then there was a story in series of telegram messages, I never knew that story could be told in this format too. It was interesting to listen at different perspective to a common theme.

Well, everyday is a learning experience, and so much joy in exploring new themes.

So here I am, with the project of 100 Happy DaysI am posting pictures each day here on my blog then sharing the link on my page on FB too. You can enjoy my work either here or on my page at FB at Pushee’s World

100 Happy Days: Day 21: Sharing Pictures online.

Happiness is ‘Sharing pictures with friends on social media'.

It’s become our habit to share pictures with our family and friends on Facebook, Watsapp and Instagram. Everybody is a photographer. See a plate of food or goodies, click, visit a monument, click, religious ceremony, click, stuck in the traffic chaos, click. Thousands of pictures are posted everyday on Facebook and on other social media. Some raw and some polished. People complain of plagiarizers but take no trouble to protect their images.

My passion is photography. For me, it’s an art waiting to be captured. Be it an ordinary Panasonic camera or a Samsung S3, my interest is not diminished. I am so grateful to Photoshop for the uplift my pictures’ quality. Sometimes standing next to professional photographer, I stand meekly, clicking a quick shot. A desire to buy a better camera lies buried under my skin. I wish to buy professional piece but won’t compromise on bulky accessories like lens, tripod, and flash. It’s too much of a hassle. But I am hoping, someday, a small, easy to carry, good cameras will soon pop out their necks, till then, clicking ordinary pictures from unimpressive camera should do the trick.

After all, what I enjoy is sharing pictures with my friends on line, isn’t it?

Boarders at war

Early morning while brushing my teeth, my boarder says “What time can you be free? I want to talk to you”

Now, I am at home most time of the day, from Mondays to Fridays, unless I have some important errands to do. Nobody needs any appointment to talk to me.

I tell her “Shoot, I am all ears.”

“No, first you get free then I have to tell you something.” She says and she disappears into her room.

I quickly rinse my mouth, wash my face, towel it and walk into her room.

“What is it?” I ask

“Is there no discipline in this house? Don’t you have any rules for your boarders?” she says.

I do have rules for the boarders who occupy my spare room. There are only three main rules which I expect my boarders to follow: Tidy up the kitchen after use, be back home before 12 midnight and none of their visitors are allowed inside my house.

I looked at her in askance on introducing some more rules.

“I am unhappy with my room mate” she says, “She is watching TV late nights, sometimes up to 2am, continuously shifting channels. I cannot sleep with flickering lights. Is there no discipline in this house? I think you should introduce strict hours for watching TV. I suggest that there should be no TV after 11pm.”

Just then her room mate emerges from bathroom and enters the room.

“Look, here is complain, your room mate is unhappy about your late night TV hours” I tell her

“And I am too,” she says.

“Now, what complain do you have?” I ask her

“I am uncomfortable because she is too lazy and keeps her part of the area too untidy. I don’t like clutter in this room but she won’t listen.”

I look around and I understand what she means. The bed-sheet is wrinkled; the dressing table is cluttered with books, water-bottles, combs, creams, medicines, etc.

“Cluttered room is cluttered mind’” I tell her, “Lets make a deal. You keep your room clean and she will put off TV by 11p.m”

Then follows the argument for next ten minutes: insensitivity towards each other’s comfort (you don’t understand my problems), lack of communication (why didn’t you tell me first?), compromise (I will do it your way only if you do it mine)

Today, their room was clean and tidy, the lights have gone off at 11pm.

Silence!
