100 Happy Days: Day 55 Experiment in the Kitchen.


Happiness is creating a new dish



Friends were coming over for lunch, and I had fully planned Chinese meal on my mind. But, what should I serve as dessert?

Should I order natural ice cream or should I make custard, should I set jelly or should I make fragrant cream? When I have friends over for lunch, I want to make the best of cuisine. It gives me great pleasure to cook for people who love eating my prepared food.

I decided to be creative. I decided to just make a dessert of whatever ingredients I could find at home.

 “What’s the name of the dessert?” they asked

I didn’t know. This was my experiment; I had not yet given it a name. I was not even sure if it would turn out good.

Friends loved it.

100 Happy Days: Day 54 Birthday Celebration.


Happiness is celebrating friend’s birthday



Birthday is a day to look back to see how far we have come, it is the day to remind our self, that the time is running out and we need to achieve our goal before we run out of time, it is the day to refresh our life and make plans to do things in better way.

It is also a day to celebrate with people who care. One of my friends’ birthday was today and we met in my house. With bouquet, lunch and cake, a surprise party was planned. Six of us spend an afternoon together and she was impressed with pampering she got.

We had fun too.

100 Happy Days: Day 53 Cooking Delights.


Happiness is being able to cook effortlessly



Every time I churn out a tasty meal for myself, I thank my mom for encouraging me to cook during my growing up years. It is such a blessing to be able to cook for myself. I would never like a Maharaj or professional helper to cook my meals each day. Nor do I like tiffin service that supply ready made meals.

It does not take much time to cook once you have made up your mind about what you plan to cook. In normal cooking, there are usually four to five basic recipes, rest all are just the trick of the ingredients. On everyday basis, one healthy dish should be enough. So why make a fuss?

Today I made Bhindi Aloo in green masala and remembered Mom after first bite. It was perfectly cooked, Mom would have been so proud of me.

100 Happy Days: Day 52 Road Trips Are Fun.


Happiness is going for long road trips.



Road trips are fun. From the comfort of a window seat you see the beautiful scenes pass by. There is no need to get your feet dirty, nor fall on broken or uneven paths, you just admire the beauty of the snow covered mountains, the sunsets going down into the sea, the bougainvillea above dirt roads, the vast farmlands stretching as far as the vision can take you, the scenes are endless

Road trips are fun. The heady feelings you get as you drive through the narrow curves, a skip of a heart beat as you look down the ravines, the thrills of the road trip is similar to what I watched today in a beautifully photographed movie ‘Highway’

While I watched the film, I was reminded of my own trips to faraway countries, when I too have tasted that kind of freedom while being so close to nature.

Road trips are fun. Today, I was once again transported to another world.

100 Happy Days: Day 51 Japanese Cooking.


Happiness is learning a new cooking technique.



Today I finally learnt how to use Japanese food products. I have visited Japanese shelves at super store many times but have never picked up any product because I have never known how to use it. But today I was invited to Aqb cook studio to attend Japanese home cooking workshop where I learnt to use Sushi Rice, rice vinegar, nori seaweeds, and ginger pickle. I learnt the technique of making sushi and noodles.

Sushi rice is a bit different from the normal rice that we use. It is sticky rice and can be cooked in rice cooker by adding 1/1 proportion. We mixed rice vinegar to the boiled rice and used it to make Temari Sushi and Nori-Maki Sushi.

It tasted delicious with wasabi, soya sauce and pickled ginger
