100 Happy Days: Day 43 Food writers.

Happiness is being in the company of published authors.

I have no idea when my book on ‘Sindhi Regional Cuisine’ will get published. My manuscript is lying with the publishers since last three years. Editing is done, even the cover is confirmed but still I am not sure if my book will ever see the light of the day. The publisher takes too long to print a book. Maybe they don’t have faith in me.

But I feel happy when foodies get their work published. Last month Rushina Ghildiyal got her book ‘A Pinch of This, A Handful of That’ published and this week it was Kunal Kapur with his book “A Chef in Every Home’

I was with two celebrities under one roof! They both were signing each other’s work. Clicking pictures together. Me, an unpublished author, is still waiting for my big day. But I am happy for them.

What a great feeling!!

100 Happy Days: Day 42 Book Launch.

Happiness is attending a book launch of a foodie.

I love attending book launches where I get to meet authors and writers. We get to co-ordinate with like-minded people; some excerpts are read from a book and then buying an autographed copy.

But attending a book launch of a foodie is completely different. Here there are no excerpts read, but there is an actual demonstration of the recipes listed in the book.

I was happy to attend the book launch of celebrity Masterchef Kunal Kapur at the glittering 5-star Leela in Mumbai. The book seems interesting and has recipes from all over the world. He demonstrated tomato bruschetta and prawn moilee, which was followed by exotic buffet lunch

An autograph copy of his published recipe book was an additional brownie point.

100 Happy Days: Day 41 Running Errands.

Happiness is having friends to run errands for you when you are unable to do it yourself.

Friend says to call her if I need any help. But then all friends do and they complain if I don’t remember them when I am in pain. I often ask them how they can release me from pain, it’s a cross I must carry it alone; all I need is to rest for few days and nurture the power to deal with it. I am not the person to take advantage of their offer and trouble them for every small favor.

But sometimes, it cannot be helped and I have to seek help.

My reading glasses spat out one glass off the hinges. Now, walking to the repair store meant daring to walk in my lane that is getting a new facelift. There is dust and pebbles strewn all over the street. I am too scared to walk on broken roads and risk another fall, need to heal first from the previous one.

So, I remembered my friend who will run this errand for me.

Such bliss!

100 Happy Days: Day 40 Close Friends.

Happiness is spending quality time with close friends

As we grow older it becomes difficult to make new friends. Yes, we do make new friends at work places, during travelling and even on social media like twitter and facebook. But, the friends that we made during our growing up years in school/college always remain our close friends even though the physical distances and family obligations may have separated us.

Whenever we meet such friends, all the distances are narrowed down to naught and we begin to enjoy just the way we always did. These are the friends who understand you, your imperfections, your temperament, your good and your bad point. You don’t need to pretend to be somebody else. You don’t even try hard to please them.

These are your friends who accept you just the way you are.

I met them today, after few years, and the day passed, chatting, singing, dancing and remembering the good ole days.

At the end of the day, when we said goodbye, the sweet memories lingered on…

100 Happy Days: Day 39 Reading Offline.

Happiness is reading a real book offline

Most of my reading is normally done online. There are blogs, news, posts, e-books, there is endless material on the net. But still, the greater pleasure is reading offline with actual book in hand.

I am still old-fashioned when reading is concerned. I love books in my hand, the weight, the smell, the touch, and actual turning of the curled pages. The comfort of resting against soft pillow, inclined at an comfortable angle, and reading at a slow pace without worrying about the battery charge.

Presently, the book in my hand is ‘rude Food’ that takes me through the food journeys across the world drooling all the way.

Such comfort!!
